Manual material handling (MMH) is encountered in nearly every organization, with most operators participating in it throughout their daily activities. How do you determine if these tasks, such as lifting, pulling, and carrying, contribute to an increased risk of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs)?

After identifying if there’s a problem, it’s often a challenge to sort through prioritizing interventions and selecting ergonomics solutions that will actually solve the problem – and not just end up being used as expensive coat racks!

In this 45-minute webinar, join certified ergonomist Josiah Allen as he covers the following topics to help you mediate problems associated with MMH tasks:

  • How to identify when manual material handling tasks require intervention;
  • The importance of accurate root cause analysis to guide effective solutions;
  • Common (and less common) ergonomics solutions for manual material handling.

EHS professionals know that of all the risks encountered in the workplace, unexpected release of hazardous energy (electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, chemical, thermal, and radiation) is arguably the most dangerous. Failure to control hazardous energy can result in severe physical injury or death. In fact, recent BLS data shows that approximately 3,000 workers suffer lost-time injuries from being caught in equipment or machinery during maintenance or cleaning and more 60 workers tragically lose their lives each year. Unfortunately, compliance with control of hazardous energy requirements like OSHA’s Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) Standard continues to be a persistent challenge for employers.

If you’ve got questions about LOTO compliance or how to improve your workplace control of hazardous energy program, you’ve come to the right place! In this 60-minute webinar, we’ll do a detailed break down OSHA’s LOTO Standard and discuss similar global control of hazardous energy regulations. We’ll also introduce components of a world-class control of hazardous energy management system like those laid out in ISO 14118. Lastly, we’ll give you actionable control of hazardous energy program best practices, including integration with other Control of Work processes like Permit-to-Work, to help you streamline administrative tasks and simplify compliance while enhancing workplace safety.

Topics will include:

  • OSHA’s Lockout/Tagout Standard including a detailed discussion of employer requirements, OSHA’s most cited provisions, and how to get a handle on compliance.
  • Key global control of hazardous energy requirements.
  • How to build a systems-based control of hazardous energy program based on guidance in the ISO 14118:2017 standard.
  • Key challenges to managing LOTO/control of hazardous energy and best practices and how to integrate LOTO with your existing Permit-to-Work and other Control of Work processes.

Register today to get your control of hazardous energy program at the leading edge of technology and best EHS best practices!

OSHA’s been busy over the last couple of years, and most discussion of their activity has focused on their rulemaking. But OSHA’s mission encompasses enforcement as well as regulatory action, and National Emphasis Programs (NEPs) comprise an important part of their strategy to plan and conduct enforcement inspections. OSHA has also been busy rolling out new NEPs targeting a variety of industries and areas of safety management – in fact, their rate of issuing new NEPs is higher than it has been for many years. EHS managers need to understand these enforcement priorities to be better prepared for potential regulatory inspections. In this webinar, EHS & ESG Expert Phil Molé, MPH will summarize OSHA’s NEPs from the past two years, break down the major components of each and provide key takeaways for EHS professionals like you.

Attend our webinar to learn:

  • The general background of NEPs, including what they do and how OSHA uses them;
  • Detailed information about recent NEPs, including what they indicate about the ways OSHA will be targeting inspections, and what their inspectors would be focusing on if they visit your site;
  • What the NEPs indicate about priorities and best practices for safety management; and
  • How modern safety software can help you prepare for potential inspections and reduce risks to your employees and your business.

Make OSHA HazCom Compliance Fast and Easy!

If your workplace contains hazardous chemicals, having a written HazCom plan in place is essential for OSHA compliance and employee safety – but with so much information to cover, it can be difficult knowing where to start. To help simplify the process, we’ve created a customizable template containing the basic elements of a compliant plan, which you can easily edit to include information specific to your work environment.

Benefits of the Written HazCom Plan Template:

  • Save time researching and compiling a written plan from scratch – Our Written HazCom Plan template outlines OSHA’s required elements and general expectations for a compliant plan, such as details related to safety data sheets, container labels and employee training.
  • Learn what’s required for a compliant plan – Our template not only makes it easy to start the process of creating your plan, but it also provides helpful guidance and education about what customizations OSHA would expect for your specific work environment.
  • Avoid costly fines for noncompliance – The HazCom Standard continues to rank #2 on the annual list of OSHA’s most frequently cited standards, and the Agency often cites employers for failing to have a plan or for having an inadequate plan. Our template makes it easier to ensure you have a comprehensive written plan that meets compliance requirements.

With our Written HazCom Plan Template, complying with this critical element of the HazCom Standard has never been easier.

Download it. Use it Today.

What You Need to Know About REBA & RULA Ergonomics Assessment Tools https://www.ehs.com/expertise/reba-rula-webinar-2023/ Thu, 31 Aug 2023 18:10:51 +0000 https://www.ehs.com/?post_type=resources&p=39937 This webinar will present the challenges of REBA & RULA ergonomics assessment methods and provide a more effective solution for your ergonomics process.

Staff inspecting facility equipment

While REBA (Rapid Entire Body Assessment) and RULA (Rapid Upper Limb Assessment) are publicly available ergonomics assessment tools that have been used for decades, they have many limitations. Some organizations have gone a step farther to support their process with ergonomics apps that use motion capture technology, while still employing REBA and RULA to assess exposure to MSD (musculoskeletal disorder) risk.

Even with this additional technology, still relying on these manual assessment methods to drive an ergonomics process may set your organization up for inefficiencies, errors and wasted efforts that can prevent your team from reaching its goals—or from even getting a successful ergonomics process off the ground.

In this 45-minute webinar and Q&A, Certified Professional Ergonomist Blake McGowan will discuss the challenges of relying on ergonomics assessment methods like REBA and RULA, considering criteria such as:

  • the validity of assessment results,
  • the sensitivity of the tools to detect variations,
  • the ability to duplicate the assessment process and results,
  • the effectiveness in helping to properly identify, quantify, and prioritize MSD risks for a job or organization.

Attendees will be presented with a more accurate and effective solution for your ergonomics process, to effectively identify, assess and control MSD risks for workers.
